Sequoia Montessori Children's House is a home-based preschool which provides the authentic montessori education founded by Dr. Maria Montessori in 1907.  At Sequoia Montessori, the child is the Agent of their work of constructing themselves.  The adult in the environment is a humble guide who links the child to the very activity that the child herself is striving for. Accoding to Dr. Montessori, the child unconciously knows what they need for their development.  So we help the child follow the inner voice that tells her what to pursue. 

--- Montessori education for 2 and 1/2 to 6-year-olds.

--- professional observation to realize each child's full potential.

--- a small group size to facilitate a strong sense of comunity within the child and the parent.

We are very happy to help the parents in English, although the Montessori program for the child is basically provided in Japanese only.  Please visit us and feel the whole setting of the classroom on your own.

Class time

9am to 2 pm, Monday to Friday.

After school activity (extended daycare) is available.

Sequoia Montessori is situated in a private house, located at a 10-minute walk from Ookurayama Station, on the Tokyu Toyoko Line.

Noriko Shimizu is the directress and the founder of Sequoia Montessori Children's House.  She has been a sincere and self-motivated learner of Montessori method, and is now ready to start a true Montessori preschool in Yokohama to help the little ones' development.
